Happy Fourth of July!

The 4th of July is such a special time.  I have some great memories of spending this holiday in my family's hometown, Brook, Indiana.  Now this town LOVES its 4th of July, especially the Brook Parade.  A few years ago, Brook celebrated it's 150th birthday with a big, multiple day event.  My dad, being a native, a retired history teacher, and great, great (maybe add another great...I get confused after a few of those "greats")grandson of one of the founding fathers, was right in the thick of it all.  They had an old fashioned wheat harvest, a play, and countless other events packed into a fun weekend. Here are a few pics from July 4, 2006.

One of my favorite pics of my dad and Bear.  She was about 20 months old.

Mom.  She was soooo proud of that cake; she made it!
Swear to Heaven that if we had to harvest the wheat across the road the way they did it in the old days, I would be in BIG trouble!  Many of the men in Brook grew beards to honor the men 150 who thought they were stylish.  Tall Guy was in seventh heaven!  ;-)

Then we have also joined in the Fowler 4th of July parade, or at least the girls have.

The bestest neighbor in the whole wide world with Bear.

I hope you are spending time with family and friends today.  Please take the time to think about, remember, and thank all those who have served and still serve to protect our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!

  1. Your "homey" post has gotten my morning off to a nice start! They'll soon be closing off Main St. for the parade. it starts at the fairgrounds and goes to the WW II tank just north of the square. It goes on and on and on with sirens, bands, floats and cannon booms. Love it! Happy 4th to you.

    Best,
    Bonnie
